HBO SOCIAL
All projects were completed during my internship at HBO.
HBO Social is a showcase of a handful of the projects and responsibilities I had during my internship at HBO. These projects all encompassed creating digital assets for hbo.com or HBO and HBO Documentaries social profiles span across social media, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Social Skins
Social Skins are the poster imagery for a series or documentary that HBO uses to promote the upcoming release of on their social platforms. These projects included resizing the key-art imagery to fit the aspect ratio suitable for social platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and occasionally Instagram stories. As well as designing the imagery in a way that operates within each platforms content safety boundaries, social skins additionally received a type treatment that showcase either the air date, a ‘tonight’ air date, or a ‘now streaming’ tagline to show the viewer when they could expect to be able to watch the programing.
Series Episodic Imagery
Episodic Imagery are digital assets hbo.com and Cinemax utilize to showcase an episode within a series and give the viewer a summative look into the episode. These tasks responsibilities included editing the crop of imagery selected to showcase a newly released episode within the series to a horizontal banner aspect ratio. This most frequently involved a level of photo editing work that included crafting background extensions or expanding upon furniture in the image to better suit the dimensions needed for hbo.com and Cinemax’s episode sites.
Announcement assets
Announcement assets were a graphic representation of an upcoming show meant to grab the viewers attention while promoting a new release. During my internship I was tasked with creating a video graphic for the series announcement of A Black Lady Sketch Show that could be used on Instagram and Facebook. I was provided the shows title treatment and was given the freedom from there to create a looping motion graphic that would draw viewer interest. After animating the title treatment the show runners decided to additionally include imagery of the main four cast members, to which I brought in their imagery and names on moving panels that would not only highlight the cast members, but also aided in a more seamless looping of the title treatment animation.
HBO.COM Banners
Website banners are housed on hbo.com and function to promote upcoming shows or drive interest towards shows already released. This Cool Off With Comedy banner is an example of one I produced during my internship. I was provided with the dimensions, copy, and shows that needed to be included on the banner. From there I was responsible for the type treatment and layout design of the banner while maintaining hbo.com’s style guidelines.
Recommended by Humans
Recommended by Humans project was a mini-series run by HBO to bring a human focused approach to recommending shows through short form videos. During this project I was given the video assets from the videography department and the brand’s visual style guide that had been established for the look of the series, and was then responsible for executing final video assets for YouTube, Social, and the campaigns website for the 12 personas featured in the series at the time. This included animating the intro, outro, and transitions; as well as adding the closed caption text used for the social crops.
